Debate Courtyard/Hall Project of Drepung Gomang Monastery

Official appeal for support from DREPUNG GOMANG MONASTERY FOR THIS PROJECT

Debate courtyard/hall/classroom in a monastery is an important place where monk students study all the five major monastic classes through critical debate. With logical reasoning as the governing rule, students practice the art of debate by questioning one another. This method of monastic debate is considered one of the best means of gaining a profound understanding by establishing the realities of things. As such, debate courtyard/hall is one of the most important places of learning for the monk students of major Tibetan monasteries. It is an integral part of a Tibetan monk’s training, and is an effective means of expanding the mind, increasing mental sharpness, developing analytical capacity, and gaining internal clarity.

Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India plans to build a spacious debate courtyard to conduct proper debate session all through the year without any monsoon, hot summer or sound disturbance, a spacious debate hall with debate courtyard that can be use for daily debate practice or session, morning/evening prayer before the debate, which can be also used as a classroom/halls for daily monastic classes where monks of each sixteen classes  as well those going for higher exams like Gelug Gyuktoe can gather and receive teachings from their teachers and this can be also used for community events like Tsen phu dhamcha (overnight mass debate ceremony), Thuk Choera (Special inter -class debate ceremony held only at  Drepung Gomang Monastery) and many others events of the monastery.
