Started on the 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan Lunar Calendar, the auspicious occasion of Chotrul duchen. In observance of the Year of Gratitude to His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama, Drepung Gomang Monastery under the initiative headed by His Eminence Khen Rinpoche has started a virtual program on Basic Buddhism for youngsters and for those interested.
As requested by the monastery, His Eminence Kyabje Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche gave teachings on the basics of Buddhism as the observance of the Year of gratitude to H.H.the 14th Dalai Lama as coordinated by Drepung Gomang Monastery.
Venerable Tulkus/Lamas and learned scholars/masters/geshes will be also taking part in the series of virtual programs in days to follow and will be teaching Buddhism. Drepung Gomang Monastery and all its monks sincerely convey our deepest thank you to all kind donors for this kind and compassionate support.
On 18th and 19th June, we are able to provide free covid1-9 vaccines for 1202 people (monks/laypeople) of the settlements. Drepung Gomang Monastery continued to offer prayers for the quick end to this Pandemic and for healing of those suffering and infected by Coronavirus.
25th June, 2021: Geshe Lharampa Ngawang Jigyal took charge as the new discipline head (Gegu) of Drepung Gomang Monastery in presence of the Abbot, His Eminence Khen Rinpoche and chief administrator and director. The tenure of the Discipline head is of one year and is elected to the post by the monks. He will be assisted by two monk assistants.
Due to Covid-19 restriction, the traditional Khatak (Tibetan scarf ) offering ceremony by the monks for new and outgoing Discipline head and their assistants were not conducted.
Three-day Annual Mahakala Prayer (Gonpo Drupsul) was conducted from 18th to 20th June. His Eminence Khen Rinpoche, Discipline Head, Chant Master, tulkus and Geshes attended the prayer at the prayer hall temple with social distancing and facemask, whereas all the other monks attended their prayer session at their respective quarters and dormitories.
Mahakala is the official deity protector of Drepung Gomang Monastery. Strict facemask and social distancing norms were carried during the prayer session as per Covid-19 guidelines.
